WerkStattWissen – The Work of Art Material and Technology in Sources and Workshop Practice
We would like to call your attention to the international conference WerkStattWissen – The Work of Art: Material and Technology in Sources and Workshop Practice which will take place from 31 May to 2 June 2017 at Bern University of Applied Sciences. The conference is part of the SNF project New Approaches to Art Technological Resources and sets out to evaluate a wide array of art technological sources. Internationally renowned researchers and emerging scholars will present and discuss problems of the reception of art technological sources, of practical knowledge and workshop practice as well as the applicability of sources in the field of conservation and restoration. The three-day international conference will be opened by Christine Göttler. The keynote lecture is given by Sven Dupré (University of Amsterdam/Utrecht University), director of the ARTECHNE-project on the history, theory, and practice of ‘technique’ in the visual and decorative arts, who will examine the problem of error and failure in art technological sources.
We are very much looking forward to this event which might stimulate questions on materiality and material knowledge relevant to our own projects on Materialized Identities. A conference report will be posted here by end of June.
